Reflection on communicative
tool
We use a variety of
communicative tools in our daily lives, including the telephone, online chat,
email, video conferencing, and social networking sites (blog, face book,
twitter, we chat etc..). These various communication tools are used for two
types of communication: synchronous and asynchronous communications.
Synchronous communication is live or real-time communication, such as telephone
calls, whereas asynchronous communication is not live or real time. Every day
and every time, we communicate using various types of communication devices;
additionally, in the educational field, various types of those tools are used
for teaching and learning. Various communication tools assist both students and
teachers in improving their communication skills, making learning more
effective and enjoyable. Both the teacher and the student required
communication skills in order to improve their teaching, learning, and
interaction
Since there was no
internet or other social media in the olden days, most communication was
synchronous. With the advancement of technology, communication is now primarily
asynchronous, as in blogs, vle, and other social media platforms, where users
can receive messages and answer whenever they choose, but not at the same time.
Although the use of
various communication methods offers huge benefits for all peoples, it does
have significant drawbacks when used in the educational sphere. The downsides
of synchronous methods of communications include that slow computer users have
difficulty following up and making quick remarks for debate. Again, the number
of discussion slides causes a slow connection and a loss of attention and
interest in the debate. Asynchronous communication, on the other hand, consists
mostly of downloading and posting files to forums or blogs, creating an
additional duty for both the learner and the instructor. Furthermore,
Asynchronous communication is flexible because it is dependent on the
individual's willingness to publish their work. As a result, it decreases
learner participation and frequency.
